Tiruppavai 27

 11-01-26 | Govardhana , Bhaghavata , Gopika , Tiruppavai , Aabharana

The austerities near completion -

Andal exults:

“O’ Govinda ! You have a graceful way of winning over your opponents, just as you humbled Indra’s rage by holding the Govardhan mountain for seven days to protect the cowherds. And it was he, who anointed you as Govinda.

“Govinda! As a reward our austerities, we’ll adorn ourselves with bracelets, shoulder ornaments, ear-studs, rings, anklets et al. We will wear new clothes. We will have food prepared using milk, and the sumptuous ghee will rise over the food and flow down our elbow.
"With your grace, we eulogize you. That’s the real reward. We shall be eternally united and experience infinite joy.”

That Garland of Lightning

28-03-17 | Vatsalya , Tvameva , Aabharana

Krishna loves to adorn himself! He is an Alankarapriya, which means he delights in decorations. He wears beautiful clothes, shining jewels, and fragrant flower garlands, like the ones we have seen in Vanvihari.

He is the master of everything in the entire universe, so much so that even lightning loves to be around him!  Can you imagine how bright and magnificent that would be? We can call it "The Garland of Lightning"!  He is the creator of everything – the stars, the planets, the wind, the fire, and yes, even the lightning! So, for Krishna, wearing lightning as a garland is just like you wearing your favorite cap. It shows his power and how everything in the universe is connected to him and serves him.

This "Garland of Lightning" reminds us that Krishna is the source of all energy and light in the universe. Just like lightning brightens up the sky, Krishna's presence brightens up everything around him. He is the ultimate source of all that is beautiful and powerful.

So, the next time you see lightning, remember our Alankarapriya Krishna, the master of everything, playfully wearing it as his dazzling garland! Isn't that a wonderful thought?

Udupi Krishna

Udupi Krishna

Udupi Krishna is the presiding deity of the Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka. The idol is believed to have been miraculously obtained by the great Guru Sri Madhvacharya. Devotees view the Lord through a nine-holed window called the "Kanakana Kindi."

The churner in the context of Udupi Krishna alludes to the divine play of the young Lord Krishna, who was fond of butter. However, on a deeper spiritual level, this is a metaphor for the human mind. Just as churning buttermilk yields butter, so too does the focused and persistent churning of one's thoughts and consciousness lead to the 'butter of life' – wisdom, enlightenment, and a connection with Krishna.

Damodara

Yashoda decorated Krishna with many ornaments and admired his beauty every day. Nevertheless, when she tied him up to the mortar as a punishment, that rope would be the most precious jewel that Krishna would cherish for all time. Damodara literally means a rope (Dama) tied around the stomach (Udara).

(Also)When Yashoda, wanting to punish Krishna, tries to tie him to a mortar - and always finds it two inches short. Even after umpteen attempts to extend the chord.
